Intel Announces the Intel® Atom™ Processor CE4100
with Support for Adobe* Flash* Player 10 and Online Gaming
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM (IDF), SAN FRANCISCO, September 24, 2009 – Intel has introduced
the
Intel® Atom™ processor CE4100
(formerly code named “Sodaville”), the latest in a family of system-on-chip (SoC)
media processors designed to bring Internet applications and services to the TV.
The highly integrated processor is the foundation for consumer electronics (CE)
platforms, based on Intel® architecture, that are expanding to support rich
media, including support for Adobe* Flash*-based 3D graphics, on-demand gaming and
TV Widgets that complement broadcast TV with Internet-based content and services.
Platform for Internet TV
“Traditional TV broadcasting is quickly shifting to a multi-stream, Internet-optimized
model to offer consumers a new TV experience with complementary digital entertainment
such as social networking, 3D gaming and streaming video,” said Eric Kim,
senior vice president and general manager, Intel’s Digital Home Group.
“At the center of this TV revolution is a new architecture based on the Intel
Atom processor CE4100, which meets the critical requirements for new connected CE
devices such as set top boxes, Blu-ray* players and digital TVs.”
Adobe* Flash* Player 10
Adobe Flash is an important enabling technology that helps developers enhance their
content with video, 3D animation and rich graphics. Intel and Adobe Systems announced
they are working to port Adobe Flash Player 10 to Intel CE media processors.
The solution will optimize the playback of advanced graphics and H.264 video through
connected CE devices, and enable a wide array of Flash 10 based content on the television.
The combination of Adobe Flash Player 10 and the Intel Atom processor CE4100 is
an ideal platform for Flash-enabled games, videos and other applications.
TransGaming* GameTree.TV*
TransGaming Inc. announced that the company will launch an on-demand gaming service
called GameTree.TV* optimized for digital TVs connected to CE devices powered by
Intel CE media processors.
The platform provides developers with a consistent Intel architecture-based migration
path from the PC environment to consumer electronics.
The GameTree.TV service expects to offer a library of games such as sports, action
and adventure in addition to a software development kit to help content developers
migrate existing games to the Intel CE platform.
The platform will encourage the development of new games, help OEMs build new CE
devices and help services providers simplify the deployment of games for their subscribers.
TV Widgets
The Intel Atom processor CE4100 provides the robust performance required for software
development frameworks including the Widget Channel, a framework for the development
of Internet applications called TV Widgets designed to complement broadcast TV.
Development frameworks like the Widget Channel provide a new platform for content
creators and compelling new experiences for TV viewers.
Broadcast networks and services providers can expand their galleries of TV Widgets
to help viewers find and connect to their favorite personalized content and information.
TV Widgets provide viewers with simplified access to a broad range of content and
services, ranging from movies and music to news, sports, games and social networking,
as well as personal photos and videos1.
1TV Widget availability and features limited. Internet-linked content
and services requires broadband Internet access and may require subscriptions at
additional cost. Check with your device manufacturer for details.
